A Whidbey Island, Wa landslide has destroyed one house and left 33 others isolated or threatened after a large, 500-foot-wide landslide wiped out the ground along the west side of Whidbey Island near the neighborhoods of Bon Air and Ledgewood Beach, south of Coupeville, Wa. Neighbors on Fircrest Avenue reported hearing a sound similar to a sonic boom and loud thunder about 4:15 a.m. The same resident reported large trees that were once seen along the bluff are now gone. Central Whidbey Island Fire and Rescue is reporting this morning that 17 homes on Driftwood Way are inaccessible and seven homes on Fircrest Avenue were evacuated.
